The Leeds United Foundation and club legend Eddie Gray were proud to present the Bishop Young Academy with the Excellence in Education Award at their inaugural Supporting Our City Awards on Wednesday evening.
Bishop Young Academy is not only the Leeds United Foundation’s largest partner school but also one that truly embodies what Excellence in Education means.
Situated in a community that faces real challenges, the Bishop Young Academy has never shied away from tackling the big issues head-on, and together with the club's official charity they have worked to improve behaviour, raise attendance, and create opportunities that inspire young people to believe in themselves and in their future.
From delivering School Hubs and the Premier League Inspires programme, to installing book vending machines that spark a love of reading, the school is constantly finding creative ways to support its students, with their success in winning the King’s Trust regional enterprise challenge proof of just how much potential is being unlocked within their pupils.
What makes this award so special is not just the academic progress shown, but the wider difference being made in the community. By standing side by side, the Bishop Young Academy and the Leeds United Foundation are showing the power of partnership – how, even in the face of difficulties, a real lasting change can be created.
From all at Leeds United, we’d like to congratulate the Bishop Young Academy on its award and thank them for their contributions to the Leeds United Foundation.
We’d also like to thank Five Lanes Primary School, another local partner school that has been highly commended for this award.
