Anton Stach’s stunning free-kick away at Aston Villa has been voted Leeds United’s JD Sports Goal of the Month for February 2026 by supporters.
The German midfielder produced a moment of real quality during the 1-1 Premier League draw at Villa Park, breaking the deadlock in the 31st minute with a superb strike from distance.
With Leeds awarded a free-kick around 30 yards from goal, Stach shaped as though he would deliver a cross towards the far post. Instead, the midfielder caught Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez off guard, firing a brilliant effort high into the top corner to give the Whites the lead.
Although Tammy Abraham equalised late on for Villa in the 88th minute to ensure the points were shared, Stach’s moment of brilliance proved to be one of the standout moments of the month.
Speaking after receiving the award, Stach said, “It feels very good of course, it was a nice goal but we didn’t take the three points. I would rather win than score goals like this one.
“I think this is my favourite goal. It was a really nice one and I will remember it for the rest of my life.”
It was a strike worthy of winning any contest, and fans overwhelmingly agreed.
When voting closed, Stach’s effort secured 91% of the vote, comfortably taking top spot in February’s poll.
Jayden Bogle’s goal against Nottingham Forest finished second with 4%, followed by Lukas Nmecha’s strike against Birmingham City with 3%, while Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s effort against Forest received 2%.
The free-kick was Stach’s fourth goal of the season, adding to strikes earlier in the campaign against Wolves, Liverpool and Crystal Palace.
It also marks the second time this season the midfielder has claimed the club’s Goal of the Month award, after supporters voted for his stunning free-kick in the 3-1 victory over Wolves at Molineux in September.
