Simon Wood: We've come together

Boss speaks after victory.

Simon Wood vs Chester-le-Street

On Sunday afternoon, Leeds United Women ran out 3-2 winners over Chester-le-Street Town Ladies in the FA WNL Division One North, returning to winning ways.

Goals from Brittany Sanderson, Alice Hughes and Ellie White secured all three points for the Whites, propelling Leeds to second place in the table.

After the match, Simon Wood said: "We wanted a response after last week. We needed a response and that response had to be three points.

"Sometimes you can play really well in a game like we did last week and lose a game, so there's different types of ways of winning a game, and I think today, the result probably doesn't reflect the performance on a whole.

The boss then went on to speak about the devastating news of Ella's passing: "With the news that we had earlier in the week, we knew this week would be tough, and this game would be tough, especially for the players that she had grown close to.

"I was pleased that we've sort of got three points that we can put as a tribute to, and that we've got back to winning ways in the league, but I think what this week has highlighted to us, there's more to life than football.

"We've come together as a sport this week and we've made sure that everyone's alright."

On Blackburn Rovers Women next week: "We prepare for it properly, and then when we go into it next week, we show that we've got as much heart and desire to go and compete at the top of the league that they've got to stay in it.

"They've fought all year, and that win last week will do a lot for them, but we've got to go and show what we're about as a team as well."
