Leeds United Women were forced to settle for a point in final day action on Sunday, drawing 1-1 with Stockport County Ladies at Edgeley Park.

Kath Smith had put the Whites ahead five minutes after the second half restart, before the hosts levelled 10 minutes from time.

Speaking after the game to LUTV, Whites boss Simon Wood said: "As an individual game today, I think Stockport rose to the occasion to play at their stadium.

"I thought we started the second half really well and then their goal comes from a set play, and we just needed that second goal to go in before theirs did.

"I think it probably fits in a little bit with the second half of the season, once we've got on top in a game, we haven't had quite enough to finish the game off, so there's a little bit of frustration there."

On the campaign as a whole: "I think we've improved in terms of league position. We feel a little bit of disappointment and a bit of frustration now at this stage of the season.

"We needed to carry on the momentum into the second half of the season and we haven't quite managed to do that, but again, this is football and we've got to review it, learn from it, and when we come back next season we've used the experience from this year.

"When we won it last year it was a great feeling," the boss commented on the West Riding FA County Cup final in two weeks. "We want to go out and do that again.

"We'll give the players a little bit of time just to recover, and then we will start the prep ready to play Bradford in the County Cup."
