The match officials for Leeds United’s Carabao Cup tie against Shrewsbury Town on Wednesday have been announced, with Sebastian Stockbridge set to be the man in the middle.

This is the 11th season the Tyne & Wear based official has been a referee in the EFL, having been promoted from the National League, ahead of the 2013/14 season.

Stockbridge has never taken charge of a senior Leeds United match, but was the man in the middle during the Papa John’s trophy clash between Blackpool and Leeds United’s Under-21s at Bloomfield Road in November 2020.  In that match, Leeds lost 3-0, with Crysencio Summerville booked for the Whites, whilst Jordan Gabriel was shown a yellow card for Blackpool and Cameron Antwi was sent off for a second bookable offence.

Wednesday’s match will be the 25th time Stockbridge has refereed Shrewsbury Town.  In the 24 previous matches, Stockbridge has issued 47 yellow cards and two red cards.  Coincidently, both red cards were shown to Josh Vela, who now applies his trade at Fleetwood Town.  Shrewsbury have won 11 games, lost nine and drawn four when Stockbridge has been the man in charge.

Stockbridge refereed the Sky Bet League One opener between Blackpool and Burton Albion at Bloomfield Road on Saturday, with the Tangerines recording a 2-0 victory, five yellow cards issued.

Last season Stockbridge refereed a total of 34 matches, issuing a total of 103 yellow cards and five red cards.
