Scott Gardner was delighted with the character his side showed as they got back to winning ways with a 2-1 victory over Burnley Under-21s.
Louie Dudley and Harry Gray were on the scoresheet at Turf Moor, earning a second victory from three Premier League 2 matches.
“We are pleased and I thought overall the performance was very good,” Gardner said at full-time. “To play well after last week’s loss to Ipswich was important and we need to find that consistency.
“We were a lot more mature than we were on Sunday. I thought in the first half we were so controlled so I actually didn’t think conceding would affect us too much.
“When we came out in the second half, I was confident we would pick up from where we left off and we did, to be fair.
“I think we have had two really good performances and we have had two average to poor performances so far in all competitions.”
Attentions quickly turn to Vertu Cup action next week, with the young Whites travelling to face Port Vale to begin their Group G campaign.
“We have got a big challenge on Tuesday night against the senior side,” he added. “What an opportunity for the players.
“It is a massive opportunity for everybody that will be involved to play against a League One side. They have shown at National League level that what we can do after last season so this is a big opportunity like I say for them to go against the senior side.”
