Scott Gardner spoke to LUTV following his side’s solid 3-1 win over Stockport County Under-21s in the Premier League Cup.

Alfie Cresswell had the Whites ahead after only eight minutes, before Carrick Njinko scored a brace before the interval to have Leeds in the driving seat.

"It was a lot more entertaining, particularly in the first half," the U21s boss said. "Just disappointed in the second half. I don't think we performed to the same level, but first half I thought was outstanding.

"We've watched Stockport and I thought in the first half we made them look average, and they're actually a very good side.

"It was important that we showed our quality and intent from the beginning, which we didn't do against Tamworth.

"We should have killed the game off straight after half-time and we give away a sloppy goal, and maybe it goes the other way, but that's a little bit of maturity coming from us as well, just to control it after they scored."

The Whites now face another quick turnaround to Tuesday, facing Oldham Athletic in the EFL Trophy, an opportunity that Gardner is looking forward to.

"Really excited to see if the boys can show what they did at Barnsley, and show people that they can compete at that level week on week."
