Leeds United Under-21s were victorious against fellow Premier League 2 outfit Tottenham Hotspur Under-21s on Monday evening.
Rhys Chadwick’s second-half strike proved the difference at the LNER Community Stadium, leaving boss Scott Gardner thrilled after the full-time whistle.
“It is really important to win after the run that we have had recently,” he told LUTV. “We have had some tough games clearly, with a young group, but a lot of character there and fairly comfortable throughout the game.
“Neither team really created loads of chances but at no point did I think we looked like we were unsettled.”
On his side’s recent results, Gardner added: “It looked like we eradicated a lot of the problems this evening, so that should give them a lot of confidence going forward for the next three or four games that we have got.”
Commenting on goalkeeper Robbie Cook’s impressive debut, the coach said: “Excellent, really solid performance. He has had to be patient.
“We talked about sometimes you have to wait for your opportunity and he has done that and he has taken it with both hands, so fair play to him.”
Ahead of their fixture against Southampton on Friday, Gardner explained what he told the team after the victory.
“Can you match it again? Can you repeat what we have done this evening and be a little bit better at times with the ball?”
