Leeds United Under-21s coach Scott Gardner was quick to praise his side, after a battling display in the capital saw the Whites earn a 3-3 draw against Chelsea Under-21s in the Premier League Cup.

Goals from Charlie Allen, Marley Wilson and Luca Thomas secured the point for United, who came from behind three times at Kingsmeadow.

The result sees Leeds remain second in Group D, having already booked their place in the next round of the competition.

After the match, Gardner gave his thoughts exclusively to leedsunited.com.

“I thought it was a really good game, really enjoyable," he began.

"It had a bit of everything! I could see the progress that we have made in a short period of time so overall I am pleased. I thought we should have won with the chances we had.

“We gifted them two goals, which is the next thing for us to manage games better in certain moments, but other than that I am really pleased.

“It is part of the process. We’ve got a new group coming together with a lot of younger lads stepping up and making the jump from Under-18s to Under-21s, so it is going to take a bit of time for them to get used to that and everything gel together.

“But the way they work every day, the way they are as people and the way they are as players, you can see the progress in a short amount of time coming together.

“Going into next week, the message is to rest up because I think there are a few bumps and bruises.

"But, it's the same again, can we build on the performance and make a few little tweaks and changes? It is about making that next step and getting the win.”
