Leeds United have been saddened to learn of the sudden passing of former defender Peter Hampton

The left-back played for Leeds United, Stoke City, Burnley, Rochdale and Carlisle United throughout his career before going on to become a physio and manager.

Recruited by Don Revie in 1971, having represented England at youth level, Hampton would make his senior debut Leeds United the following year against Southampton.

Pushing England international Terry Cooper for a starting spot, Hampton was named on the bench for Leeds United's 1975 European Cup Final clash with Bayern Munich, before becoming a regular starter during the 1976/77 season.

Hampton would go on to make 83 appearances for the Whites, scoring three goals and helping the side to the FA Cup and League Cup semi-finals in successive seasons.

After 9 years with the club, Peter Hampton joined Stoke City where he would go on to make over 150 appearances for the Potters.

The thoughts of everyone at Leeds United are with Peter’s family and friends at this difficult time.
