Champions Leeds United ran 4-0 winners against Charlton Athletic at Elland Road, in the club’s final game before a return to the Premier League.

Leeds had the first chance of the match, with Jack Harrison doing well to work room for a shot in the Charlton penalty area, but he fired a curling effort just over.

The Whites went ahead in the 13th minute.  Following a corner, the ball came out to Ben White on the edge of the box and he controlled with his chest, before superbly volleying into the top corner.

Eight minutes later Leeds could have gone further ahead when Mateusz Klich’s cross fell to Ezgjan Alioski, but he fired over from the penalty spot.

Leeds continued to dominate and Alioski played in Pablo Hernandez, but he saw his strike from a narrow angle well saved by Dillion Phillips.

Leeds doubled the lead in the 28th minute.  Hernandez sent Dallas into the Charlton box with a lovely pass and the Northern Ireland international slotted home.

Luke Ayling tried to get in on the action when he fired a sweet strike from 25 yards, but Phillips made a fine save.

Dallas came close to scoring his second of the night when a corner fell into his path and he saw an effort deflect just wide.

Klich struck off target following a corner, before Harrison teed up Dallas, who was denied by another fine save.

Charlton should have levelled in the 37th minute.  Alfie Doughty broke through on goal following a Leeds corner, but he put the chance wide of the goal.

On the stroke of half time, Alioski fired just inches wide from 25 yards, with the Whites well on top at the break.

Half time: Leeds United 2-0 Charlton Athletic

Charlton started the second period brightly and only a fine save from Illan Meslier denied substitute Chuks Aneke.

It was Leeds though, who extended the lead in the 51st minute, when half-time substitute Tyler Roberts headed home from a corner.

Hernandez struck wide from distance, before Albie Morgan’s deflected strike was well stopped by Meslier.

Leeds made it four in the 66th minute.  Pascal Struijk sent Ian Poveda away with a lovely through ball and he cut the ball back for fellow substitute Jamie Shackleton to net his second goal in as many games.

After a period of few chances, Ayling struck from distance in the 87th minute, with Phillips making a decent save.

That sprung the game into life once again and at the other end, Aneke saw a header well saved by Meslier.

Poveda then struck over in stoppage time, as the Whites had to settle for a four goal win.

The result caps off a fine season for Marcelo Bielsa's side, who picked up a club record 93 points in securing the league title.
