Forever a part of the Leeds United family.

Everyone at Leeds United were devastated to hear of the passing of young supporter Ella Lynch, after an incredibly brave battle with cancer.

A hugely popular figure at Garforth on a matchday for the Women’s team, Ella’s infectious smile, heartwarming personality and inspiring courage made it clear that football was so much more than a game.

A talented player herself, Ella was part of the Leeds United Foundation’s Girls Shadow Squad, after impressing on her trial through the Women and Girls Pathway.

After leading the teams out in the pre-season meeting with Doncaster Rovers Belles alongside her favourite player Paige Williams, the two became close friends and made great memories together.

Paying tribute, Paige said: “Ella was a breath of fresh air and she touched the hearts of everyone that encountered her. She disguised what she was going through so effortlessly – it was truly inspiring. She was funny, sassy, generous and kind.

“She was independent, loving and talented – definitely a future Lioness. Ella would be the first person the nurses would buddy up with a new patient because she made such scary and worrying times feel okay and normal.

“From the moment I met Ella in hospital something in me just clicked. I feel privileged to have gained a special bond with such a beautiful little girl and she has impacted my life in ways words could never describe.

“I will miss her dearly but I will forever remember her resilience, amazing personality and all her stylish sets of nails. Ella, thank you for changing my outlook on life, making me smile and for touching my heart so deeply. You will have a place in it forever.”

After then leading the men’s team out as a mascot alongside Jayden Bogle, in December, staff and players were lucky enough to welcome Ella and her family to Thorp Arch, where the youngster was shown around by club captain Ethan Ampadu.

Having the chance to meet her heroes in the first-team squad, Ella’s bravery and positivity made a lasting impression at the training ground and beyond.

Speaking about her time in the Women and Girls Pathway, Abigail Lee of the Leeds United Foundation added: “We are deeply saddened by the loss of Ella, a member of our pathway.

“On behalf of the Leeds United Women and Girls Pathway and the Leeds United Foundation, we send our thoughts to her family and friends. Her courage, love of football and place in our pathway family will always be remembered.”

Ahead of this weekend’s FA WNL Division One North clash between Leeds United Women and Chester-le-Street Town, the teams will come together for a minute’s applause at Garforth and also wear black armbands in tribute.

Then, Ella’s family will be guests of the club at next weekend’s Emirates FA Cup tie with Norwich City, where fans will be encouraged to join in a round of applause in the 10th minute at Elland Road, as Leeds United remembers one of its own.

Rest in Peace Ella, you were an inspiration and will be missed by so many.
