Laura Bartup has shown her support for Pride Month during a visit to one of the disability programmes delivered by the Leeds United Foundation, with participants taking part in a special presentation based around celebrating LGBTQ+ communities.
Pride Month takes place throughout June to commemorate the important Stonewall riots that took place in 1969 to fight for gay rights, and the entire month is dedicated to raising awareness and celebrating LGBTQ+ communities around the world.
The Leeds United Women’s player was on hand to take part in the celebrations during a weekly social club that is hosted for youngsters aged 12 to 24 in the local community with varying disabilities.
The two-hour sessions take place every Friday evening, allowing children and young people with a physical or learning disability to come along, make friends, have fun and learn new skills. Each week different activities are arranged for the group including educational workshops, such as the presentation around Pride Month.
During this most recent event, Laura ensured she was in attendance to help deliver the presentation on Pride whilst also making time for an exclusive Q&A session to give the participants the chance to learn more about her background and footballing career so far.
The presentation covered the importance of Pride Month and how it celebrates acceptance, equality, the work of LGBTQ+ people, education in LGBTQ+ history and raising awareness around the issues affecting LGBTQ+ communities. Pride is all about being proud of who you are, not matter who you love and it is a time for people to come together to show how far LGBTQ+ rights have come but also how much work there is still to be done.
The session took place at the Ramgarhia Sports Centre in Leeds and before the forward left she also made time to take part in a football skills session, teaching participants how to do the ‘rainbow flick.’
