Leeds United Women kick-off their 2023 this Sunday, as they welcome FAWNL Northern Premier Division side Stoke City Women to the So-Trak Stadium, for an eagerly anticipated FA Cup third round clash.
It is third time lucky in terms of the game going ahead, after twice being postponed before the festive break. Both teams will be raring to go, given the fact that the Fourth Round draw has already been made and the winner of this tie will face WSL side, Arsenal.
Stoke’s visit will be the third time Leeds have faced higher-ranked opposition in cup competitions this season. After beating Brighouse on penalties in the FA Cup first round, the Whites also knocked West Brom out of the FAWNL plate last time out thanks to two goals from Macey Ellis.
Leeds’ FA Cup run so far has seen them beat South Shields 5-1 in the qualifying round, Brighouse on penalties (1-1 AET) in the first round proper and Redcar Town 7-2 in the second round.
The Potters have made it to this stage in the competition thanks to a 3-1 win over league rivals Loughborough Lightning in the second round and a 3-2 penalty shoot-out win (1-1) over Derby County previously, in the first round.
