Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds United will take on Spanish side Villarreal on Saturday evening (7:00pm).
The Whites will face off against La Liga's Yellow Submarine, as they are known, in their final pre-season friendly before the Premier League action gets underway next weekend.
The clash in tactics between Unai Emery’s and Leeds' high energy attacking style should result in an interesting dynamic, as both teams thrive for match sharpness before the start of their domestic campaigns.
Villarreal will meet with English opposition again four days later, when they take on Chelsea in the Super Cup final, which occurs every year between the winners of UEFA’s two leading club competitions.
Emery’s outfit will hope to pick up some of the same form that saw them defeat the Whites’ opening Premier League opponent, Manchester United on penalties in the Europa League Final, which took place in late May 2021.
Leeds will be Villarreal’s final friendly opposition, after draws against Lyon (2-2) and Levante (1-1), along with defeats against Marseille (2-1), Valencia (3-2) and Leicester (3-2).
The Whites have played Guiseley, Blackburn Rovers, Fleetwood Town and Ajax up to now, with many members of the playing squad getting vital minutes throughout.
