A place in the National League Cup final at stake.

Leeds United Under-21s travel to Altrincham on Tuesday evening for a last four clash in the National League Cup, with a place in the final at stake for Scott Gardner’s side.

The Whites progressed to the semi-final after a stunning comeback victory over Aldershot Town away from home in the previous round.

A Rhys Chadwick brace and thunderous Oliver Pickles volley secured victory in Hampshire, with United now the only remaining Under-21s side left in the inaugural competition.

The tournament has been fruitful for Leeds this campaign, bringing wins over Boston United and Gateshead, before a penalty shootout success over FC Halifax Town and a narrow defeat at Tamworth.

The Whites go into the tie on the back of a hard-fought 2-2 draw with Manchester United U21s in the Premier League 2, which saw skipper Alfie Cresswell and striker Harry Gray on the scoresheet at Thorp Arch.

Altrincham, meanwhile, reached the final four stage after needing penalties to overcome Newcastle United U21s in the quarter-finals, after the fixture finished 3-3 in normal time.

Like the Whites, the Robins also collected eight points from their four group stage fixtures, finishing second in the standings.

Since victory over York City at the start of March, Phil Parkinson’s side have gone seven without a win, putting a dent in their promotion credentials having now slipped to ninth in the Vanarama National League, three points adrift of the Play-Off positions.

The winners will face either Braintree Town or Sutton United in the final. Action from the J. Davidson Stadium gets underway at 7:30pm.
