The Leeds United Foundation Premier League Primary Stars (PLPS) team are hosting a week of live lessons online for youngsters still attending school during the latest national lockdown.
Every day a member of the PLPS department will host an educational session based around different subjects with the running theme of mental health and wellbeing as we lead up to Time To Talk Day 2021 which will take place on Thursday 4th February.
The series of live lessons include sessions based on literacy, maths, arts and PSHE with the support of some special guests to make every lesson fun as well as educational. Local author and avid Leeds United supporter Tom Palmer will attend the literacy sessions with local street artist and teacher Burley Banksy taking part in the art lessons.
Each session will be live streamed into schools around the city to support the children of key and critical care workers, which will hopefully take some of the pressure from teachers and give the youngsters a just reward for their hard work during such difficult times.
Each lesson has been designed to promote positive physical and mental wellbeing, with the aim of inspiring and engaging all students taking part. The sessions will be interactive, contributing towards the school curriculum and demonstrating positive ways for children to express good mental wellbeing during this current national lockdown.
There are over 25 local schools throughout Leeds and the surrounding areas signed up to take part in the week of activities, however if there are any other schools that are interested in taking part in the remaining sessions there is still chance to do so, all free of charge, just email [email protected].
Aside from the live lessons with young pupils, coaches at the club’s official charity are also delivering Teacher CPD workshops and events to help support the work they are doing, with a specific focus on exploring ways of engaging students that are reluctant to read through the power of sport and guidance from children's author Tom Palmer.
