Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford spoke to the media following Tuesday’s victory over Southampton.
Bamford netted his 16th goal of the season in the match as Leeds’ fine end of season form continued at St Mary’s Stadium.
Tyler Roberts was also on the scoresheet as the Whites came away with a 2-0 victory, but Bamford admitted it was far from easy.
“We probably couldn’t have complained if we went in at half time losing,” said Bamford.
“They performed really well in the first half and we couldn’t keep the ball, every time we won it back, we gave it back to Southampton which made it really difficult to keep up the intense pressure.
“At half time we readjusted ourselves a little bit and came out a lot stronger in the second half.
“I think on the balance of the game we probably deserved to win, but in the first half Southampton were better.
“I thought VAR was going to do me again for my goal, I was a little bit nervous, the ball skipped away from me as it bounced, but I managed to get a toe on it, it was a little bit fortunate, but a goal is a goal.”
The victory ensures Leeds United will finish in the top half of the Premier League table and Bamford is delighted with that achievement.
“It’s fantastic for the club as a whole, the management, the staff and everyone who works behind the scenes, down to the kitchen staff at the training ground.
“They’ve been at the club for 16 years, some of us players have been for two or three years, so we don’t know what it was like, but everyone in the club has suffered and they deserved it, this is for them, they stuck with us through the hard times.”
