Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford spoke to LUTV following Thursday’s victory over Barnsley.

The Whites forward played a key role in getting Leeds the three points, with his cut-back turned home by Barnsley defender Michael Sollbauer, securing Leeds a 1-0 victory.

Whilst it wasn’t the prettiest performance, Bamford was thrilled with the win, which puts Leeds one point away from the Premier League.

“It was a really tough game,” said Bamford.

“We knew it wasn’t going to be an easy game and we didn’t perform very well, so we made it more difficult.

“It was nice to get the three points, we rode our luck at times, but the three points is what matters.

“We resorted to going long and lost the ball a lot, it was a tough game to be in and it was tiring, but we defended well when we had to.

“There was a lot of relief at full time, probably just the same as the fans, I know I’m not just speaking for myself, but the whole team was knackered afterwards.

Despite potentially being promoted without kicking a ball prior to Sunday’s penultimate fixture with Derby County, Bamford says the side want to win both games remaining.

He said: “The way we look at it is, before this game we needed to win two games to become champions.

“Obviously you would take second if it meant going up or not going up, but ideally you want to win the league.

“It isn’t everyday you get the chance to get a medal and you can tell your future grandkids about that when you’re older.

“Ideally we want to be champions and we will be focusing on that.”
