Noah Okafor featured from the bench as Switzerland reached the last 16 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup with a 2-0 victory over Algeria in Vancouver.
The Leeds United forward was introduced in the 71st minute, replacing Johan Manzambi on the left wing, as Switzerland saw out a historic result at BC Place.
It was the nation’s first knockout win at a World Cup since 1938, when they defeated Germany in the last 16, before the introduction of the modern group-stage format.
Switzerland have now reached the last 16 of the competition for a fourth successive tournament and will face either Colombia or Ghana on Tuesday 7 July, with kick-off at 21:00 BST, again at BC Place in Vancouver.
Okafor made an energetic impact after coming on, recording 16 touches and completing seven passes during his time on the pitch.
The 26-year-old also had one shot blocked, made two tackles and three recoveries, while winning three aerial duels as Switzerland protected their advantage in the closing stages.
With the ball, Okafor carried possession five times over a combined distance of 34.1 metres, helping his side progress comfortably into the next round.
Switzerland will now wait to discover their opponents, as they look to continue their best World Cup run for almost 90 years.
