During May, Leeds United are proud to be supporting St Gemma's Hospice and their 'Go Purple' campaign as they look to rase valuable funds to support the care they provide to their residents.
St Gemma’s Hospice is Yorkshire’s largest Hospice providing the best possible end of life care and support for local people with cancer and other life-threatening illnesses. They specialise in pain relief and symptom control to help people live as well as possible, for as long as possible.
The Hospice is a friendly, warm and safe place at the heart of the local community with a large range of expert services to support patients, their families and friends, both in the Hospice and in the community.
St Gemma’s welcomes and provides care to everyone regardless of people’s age, gender, disability, race religion, sexual orientation or diagnosis. All services at St Gemma’s Hospice are provided completely free of charge.
It costs over £15 million per year to keep running the Hospice for local patients and their families facing one of the most difficult times in their lives. They receive a small amount of funding from the NHS, but rely on the generosity of the community for the majority of income which is received through the St Gemma’s Hospice charity shops and fundraising.
In May, St Gemma’s Hospice is asking the Leeds community to ‘Go Purple’ and raise money in any way they wish. Whether it’s baking, running, crafting or hosting a raffle, your creativity can make a huge difference for local patients and families in our care.
85-year-old Cecilia and her great-niece Breanne are dying their hair purple in memory of Cecilia’s nephew, Breanne’s father, Robert who sadly passed away recently at the Hospice.
Cecilia commented: "I am so grateful for the incredible care St Gemma’s Hospice provided to Robert in his final few days. It was a very special time and the memories will always stay with me. I am delighted to be able to support St Gemma’s and raise money by dying my hair purple for their Go Purple campaign."
This is your opportunity to think outside the box and help support your local community. Bake, cycle, swim or host an event. Fundraise however works for you this May at work, at school or in your community. Every idea counts, no matter the size.
