Leeds United are pleased to announce its ongoing commitment to environmental sustainability, after successfully completing our recent EFL Green Club assessment.
The EFL Green Club scheme is delivered in partnership with GreenCode, and the club was delighted to achieve the Bronze award alongside four other clubs, following our previous Participant status.
Some of the reasons noted with regards to the Bronze award being granted, included our commitment to including locally sourced vegan and vegetarian options on matchday menus, along with our on-site herb garden based at Thorp Arch that directly supplies the first-team and Academy canteens.
EFL Green Clubs is a voluntary scheme that first launched in 2021 to support football clubs in improving their environmental practices and operations. The scheme was updated for the 2024/25 season to introduce a new assessment cycle that awards participating clubs with a specific status - which could be either Participant, Bronze, Silver or Gold.
This refreshed process presented a more rigorous assessment for those involved, requiring all clubs to exceed standard sustainability measures, showing a more concentrated effort in implementing environmentally sustainable practices.
EFL Green Clubs currently has more than 30 clubs signed up to the programme, with each participating club - including Leeds United, tasked with identifying further key priority areas around environmental sustainability measures and protocols.
