Kalvin Phillips has given his thoughts ahead of Friday night’s home clash with West Ham United.

The midfielder reflected on the defeat to Chelsea last weekend, explaining that it was the second half which took the game away from the Whites.

“I think obviously we’re disappointed with the result and the way the game went in the second half,” Phillips said.

“I think when you go to Chelsea you have to play well, and I think in the first half we did that.

“Second half we came out and they showed their experience and showed how good their players are individually and collectively as a team.

“We’ve not got one individual person that carries us as a team, we’re a collective and that’s what the manager sees in us.

“We’re better collectively than we are individually so if we work together and train how he wants us to train, then we’ll be a better team.”

Fans were back at Stamford Bridge last weekend, with 2,000 home supporters being allowed to attend the match. Unfortunately we still await a return for Leeds fans at Elland Road, which Phillips is hoping will come soon.

“Honestly I’m gutted for the fans, I wish they could be there. I’m a fan myself so I feel exactly the same,” Kalvin explained.

“It was kind of weird when we were at Chelsea, seeing them with their fans and no-one in the away end, but it was a nice feeling.

“The first couple of minutes when we scored, it was nice to hear them go pretty quiet.

“We’re still going through the pandemic, that’s still going on at the minute so it’s very heart breaking for some Leeds fans.

“I’m pretty sure sooner or later they’ll be back in the stadiums and we’ll have the fans back as soon as possible.”

Friday night’s opponents are West Ham United, who Phillips believes a good team who will fight for everything, to take home the points.

He said: “West Ham are a great team, they’ve got a great manager and great players.

“They’re very organised as a team as well, they can catch a few people on the counter-attack as well which we’ve seen in the last few games.

“They’re like us, they fight, they’re very athletic, they’re very physical and it will be a big test for us.

“Hopefully we can work out what we’re going to do for the game and maybe catch them by surprise.”
