Leeds United supporters have voted James Justin’s stunning overhead kick against Wolverhampton Wanderers as the club’s JD Sports Goal of the Month, following a memorable strike at Elland Road.
The 28-year-old, a summer arrival from Leicester City, produced a moment of brilliance in the 18th minute of Leeds’ 3-0 victory, capping off a relentless start from the hosts.
After Ethan Ampadu saw his close-range effort superbly saved on the line by Dan Bentley, the ball looped invitingly into the air. Reacting in an instant, Justin adjusted his body and executed an outrageous bicycle kick that flew into the net, leaving supporters inside Elland Road in disbelief.
It was Justin’s third goal of the season, adding to strikes in the FA Cup win over Derby County at Pride Park and the draw against Everton at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.
Leeds fans showed their appreciation in the monthly poll, with Justin’s effort claiming 39% of the vote in a competitive field. Goals from Noah Okafor against Man Utd and Sean Longstaff versus Bournemouth each earned 27%, while Ao Tanaka’s strike against West Ham picked up 7%.
Speaking after receiving the award, Justin reflected on a moment he admits was driven purely by instinct.
“It’s an honour to receive another award. It was a nice moment for me and my family.
It was just instinct - the ball was up in the air, a split-second decision. I decided to go for it and, luckily, it found its way into the back of the net.
I didn’t see it go in, but I heard the roar of the crowd.
I’ve probably watched it about fifty times now. I’ve never scored anything like that before in terms of acrobatics - I’ve never practised anything like that.”
