James Justin was voted Hisense Player of the Match by Leeds United supporters after a resolute defensive display helped the Whites earn a 0-0 draw away to Liverpool on Thursday night.
In a goalless New Year’s Day Premier League clash at Anfield, the 27-year-old summer signing from Leicester played the full 90 minutes and emerged as the standout performer in a match dominated by defensive organisation and concentration.
Justin topped the fan vote with 37%, comfortably ahead of Gabriel Gudmundsson (19%), Pascal Struijk (11%) and Sebastiaan Bornauw (8%). His performance was also recognised by the league, as he was awarded the Premier League's Player of the Match.
Defensive discipline at Anfield
Leeds spent long periods without the ball against a Liverpool side pushing to break down a well-drilled back line, and Justin was central to their resistance.
He finished the contest with 36 touches, six passes and 10 defensive contributions, including one tackle, two blocks, six clearances and one interception. The full-back also won eight duels, underlining his physical and positional authority in a demanding away fixture.
His work did not go unnoticed by Fantasy Premier League managers either, returning six points for those who had placed their trust in him.
