Speaking ahead of Saturday’s clash against AFC Bournemouth at Elland Road, Jesse Marsch gave his thoughts to the media.
The head coach knows that their opponents this weekend will pose a tough test, but insists the focus needs to be on themselves bringing their best game to the pitch.
The press conference began as always, with an update on the fitness of Marsch’s side.
He said: “Stuart Dallas and Adam Forshaw are still injured, but making progress.
“Archie Gray will be out on the pitches tomorrow, getting closer to training with the first team.
“The only other update is Luis Sinisterra. He has a foot injury which has turned out to be more than we initially thought it was.
“He wasn’t making the progress we were hoping for him to make, so they did another scan, then a specialist looked at it, and they are worried its a Lisfranc.
“It’s a rare injury that controls the movement of metatarsals. We don’t believe it’s ruptured, we believe it’s partially torn, which puts him in a grey area but probably out until after the World Cup.”
Bournemouth come to Elland Road sitting one place higher in the table than the Whites, but have been on a tough run of form lately, so will be looking to return to winning ways.
“This week I think there has been real concentration on what is necessary for this weekend,” Marsch explained.
“Our focus entirely is to build momentum. In order to do that, we have to get a result and a win against Bournemouth.
“Bournemouth in general, I know they haven’t gotten a lot of results lately, but if you look at their metrics as a team they are improving.
“We believe they are very lethal in the counter attacking situations, they defend really hard, sometimes a bit deeper.
“Their manager has done a great job of taking them out of a moment earlier in the season where they looked like they were in trouble, to making them stronger.
“We have to now be ready to perform at our best. That’s a big focus this week, knowing the opponent, but then making sure we’re ready to be at our best.”
