Leeds United begin their Emirates FA Cup journey this weekend away against Cardiff City, in the third round of the competition.

The Whites head to South Wales to take on the Sky Bet Championship side in a match that Jesse Marsch knows is an important one, against a tough side in a competition he values strongly.

Beginning with team news ahead of the match, the head coach gave an update on his side after recent fixtures.

He said: “Patrick Bamford was in training today which is a big step in right direction, but I’m not predicting he’s ready this weekend.

“Adam Forshaw is probably not available for this match, but he will be training next week.

“Stuart Dallas had a follow up operation as they thought he had an infection, so they cleaned that, now he’s back and feeling good.

“Luis Sinisterra was on the pitch individually today, looking really strong. He was sprinting, running and looking close.

“We’re hopeful some time next week he’s back in training, but he’s not ready this weekend.”

On the match itself at the Cardiff City Stadium, Leeds will be taking over 6,000 fans and the head coach wants to see his side go on an FA Cup run this season.

“I’ve been on different ends of what a cup match can be,” Marsch stated.

“David and Goliath, as a player and a manager. I think it’s really important to understand that for both teams it’s really important.

“We expect the best out of Cardiff and it won’t be easy. When we got draw, we weren’t happy as it will be a very difficult game.

“This is why when we got the draw, we spoke about it and we knew it was a difficult draw, it’s a long way too.

“Our mindset is to prepare for an important match in an important way, and that the group we put out on the pitch represents exactly what we want it to be.”
