Highly rated central defender Jacob Howard recently became the latest Academy player to put pen to paper on a first professional contract with Leeds United.
Impressive as he broke into Scott Gardner’s Under-21s last term, the 17-year-old, who grew up in the shadow of Elland Road, spoke of his delight in extending his stay with the Whites.
“It is an honour. I am just proud and excited to carry it on into the new season. It is a dream come true, obviously, to support the club and live and die by the club.
“I signed when I was 10, in the U11s, so I have been here a while now. My dad and family have been a big help on this road to get to this place.
“And obviously as well, all the coaches that have taught me what they know have been massive. Hopefully I can make them all proud.
“I just play with my heart on my sleeve and I will give it everything – passion, leadership to hopefully get on that pitch.”
Capped by England at youth level, Jacob wants to use those experiences on the international front to continue aiding his development at Thorp Arch.
“I scored my first goal last season against Australia – a good header, if I do say so myself,” he laughed after signing his contract at Elland Road.
“I finished off the season as well, captaining England in the qualifier against Estonia, which obviously is a dream come true.
“It has gone to plan so far so I hope I can continue in the future. I think the next aim is to keep pushing, knocking on the door and hopefully get my chance.”
