Leeds United are delighted to announce the signing of exciting forward Harry Wilson, who joins the club following the expiry of his contract at fellow Premier League side Fulham.
Arriving at Elland Road on a four-year-deal, Wilson becomes our first signing of the summer transfer window, having chosen to join the Whites over several offers from elsewhere.
Wilson is an experienced top-flight and international attacker, who can operate anywhere across the forward areas, showing versatility and quality in the final third of the pitch.
Starting his career with Liverpool, the now 29-year-old would go on to play twice for the first team at Anfield. It was away from Merseyside whilst on loan where he shone, with a short-term switch to Hull City allowing the winger to flourish by scoring seven goals in 13 appearances in East Yorkshire.
Individual accolades followed from Wilson’s time with the Tigers, as the club’s Player of the Month Award for March was added to with the PFA Player of the Month for April, sparking interest from others, but a new deal at Anfield was signed quickly after.
Another loan followed, this time to the East Midlands with Derby County. As well as performing admirably once more in the league, a stunning 30-yard free-kick in the League Cup away at Manchester United added another memorable moment to a growing CV. He finished the season with an impressive 15 goals.
Stepping up a level, a loan move to AFC Bournemouth in the Premier League was next. Wilson scored in his first two matches, away at Aston Villa before another stunning free-kick at home to Manchester City. He finished with seven goals in his maiden top-flight campaign.
Following his time with the Cherries, he headed back to his homeland, to the Welsh capital to spend a season on loan with Cardiff City. By this point, he had accumulated over 100 senior appearances, and he added a further 38 to his tally with the Bluebirds, scoring seven times, including a first professional hat-trick.
In 2021, Wilson began what would be a five year stay at Fulham. Scoring on his debut in a memorable first campaign at Craven Cottage, Wilson’s 12 goals would help the Cottagers to promotion to the Premier League. He then helped to stabilise his new team in the top-flight the following year, where they have remained ever since.
Wilson now departs West London after making just shy of 200 appearances. Last term, his 11 goals and eight assists saw him crowned his former club’s Player of the Season and his audacious strike against Crystal Palace won the BBC’s Goal of the Season accolade.
Throughout his career, as well as regularly playing at club level, Harry also regularly represented Wales. He became the youngest ever player for his country when making his debut in October 2013, taking the record from the previous holder Gareth Bale.
His 69 caps while representing Wales has seen him play at EURO 2020 and the 2022 World Cup, whilst also having an international hat-trick to his name which came in a 7-1 thumping of North Macedonia. He now links back up with some notable international teammates, this time in the white shirt of Leeds United.
Everyone at the club would like to welcome Harry to Elland Road and we look forward to seeing him in action when the new season gets underway.
