Leeds United Under-21s ran out 2-1 winners over Derby County Under-21s in the Premier League 2, courtesy of a Harry Gray double after the break.
The attacker drilled a fine strike into the corner to level matters after the Whites had fallen behind, before being well placed to bundle home from close range to help his side record the victory in Matlock.
Reflecting on the performance after the encounter, Gray was pleased with how his teammates had responded to the early setback.
“The first half was difficult on a tough pitch but we came through it in the end,” the striker explained at full-time.
“It was good but we always believed that we could beat them. We knew we would come through with the points.
“It was a tricky pitch but we kept playing our football and found our ways. Eventually, we got the goals that we needed.”
The forward’s second-half brace proved the difference for the Whites, with Gray delighted to be back on the pitch on his return from injury.
“The first one just came at me, I took a touch and just struck it,” he added. “The second one just dropped to me to tap it in.
“I just need to keep playing games. It was a while that I was out for but I developed a bit more physically and I feel a lot better now than before. Everything happens for a reason, so I am enjoying it now.
“It was tough at the start but everyone and my family told me I would get through it, physically I would get better and I feel a better player now.”
