Gabriel Gudmundsson played 77 minutes as Sweden secured a 3-1 victory over Ukraine in their World Cup qualifying play-off semi-final, moving one step closer to a place at the 2026 tournament.

The tie, held at the Estadio Ciudad de Valencia, saw Gudmundsson operate at left wing-back, delivering a disciplined and energetic display on the international stage. The Leeds United man registered 29 touches and completed eight passes, while also posing an attacking threat with two shots.

His ability to carry the ball forward was evident, recording seven carries covering a total distance of 83.3 metres, helping Sweden transition effectively from defence into attack.

Defensively, Gudmundsson contributed with one recovery and a tackle won, while also coming out on top in three duels during his time on the pitch.

The 26-year-old was replaced in the 77th minute by Borussia Dortmund's Daniel Svensson, shortly after Sweden had established control of the contest.

Shortly after the full-time whistle, Gudmundsson took to Instagram to share his reaction, posting the message: “One more to go.”

Sweden will now face Poland in the play-off final, with the decisive clash set to take place at the Strawberry Arena on Tuesday 31 March. A place at the 2026 World Cup awaits the winner.
