Willy Gnonto has been voted Leeds United’s Hisense Player of the Match following Sunday’s FA Cup win over Derby County at Pride Park.
The Italy international was at the heart of United’s comeback as Daniel Farke’s side booked their place in the next round with a 3-1 victory.
Derby had taken the lead midway through the first half when Ben Brereton Diaz struck in the 35th minute, capitalising on a rare opening for the hosts.
But Leeds responded after the break with renewed purpose and it was Gnonto who drew United level in the 55th minute, finishing confidently to swing the momentum firmly in the Whites’ favour.
From there, Leeds asserted control. Ao Tanaka put the visitors ahead with a composed strike before James Justin added a third to seal the win and complete a commanding second-half display.
Gnonto’s influence across the contest was underlined by his numbers. The 22-year-old completed 41 passes from his 63 touches, made six recoveries, won five duels and registered two shots on goal during an energetic 86-minute performance before being replaced by Sam Byram late on.
Supporters were quick to recognise his contribution, with Gnonto topping the poll on 49% of the vote. Goalscorer Tanaka finished second on 22%, followed by Joel Piroe on 10% and Jaka Bijol on 5%.
