On Wednesday 4th December 2019, Leeds City Council will honour the Revie team with the Honorary Freedom of the City of Leeds.
Since Leeds United were founded in 1919, the period from 1967-74 was the club’s greatest era of success to date, with seven trophies won.
Starting with the League Cup in 1968, Revie and his team went on to win two Inter-Cities Fairs Cups, two First Division titles, the FA Cup and Charity Shield.
The Freedom of the City Award has only been granted to a select number of people, and recognises the enormous contributions they made in their respective fields.
Included in those to receive the accolade previously were former South African president Nelson Mandela, Winston Churchill, Leeds playwright Alan Bennett and cyclist Beryl Burton.
The Leeds United football team of 1967-1974, will be the first group to ever receive the award, with the ceremony to be led by Lord Mayor of Leeds Councillor Eileen Taylor.
Anyone who was part of the Revie playing or backroom staff during that time, or who had a family member and hasn’t been contacted should email [email protected] as soon as possible.
