A sensational display of finishing saw Scott Gardner’s side progress safely in to round four of the FA Youth Cup, after they hit eight goals against MK Dons.

The opening period of the match at York City’s LNER Community Stadium was a relatively even affair, wither neither goalkeeper having to work hard. However, when the first goal of the game arrived in the 16th minute, the floodgates for goals opened.

Joe Snowdon was the player to put the Whites ahead as he raced into the area, firing low into the bottom corner across Tom Carter in the visiting net. It would then only be four minutes later for the second, as Morten Spencer struck home from outside the box, via a deflection.

In what was proving to be an exceptionally difficult spell for MK, they were then reduced to 10 men as their captain, Josh Bailey, was shown a straight red for a lunging foul on Keenan Carole.

Looking to make the man advantage count, Max McMillan made it three just moments after the dismissal by turning superbly in the box, then curling into the far corner. It was Carole with good work for the assist, after picking himself up from the challenge minutes earlier.

MK were however not going to give up in their fight and they pulled a goal back through James Holmes, as the striker capitalised on a chance to reduce arrears.

The constant pressure was bringing more chances for the Whites though, and the fourth did arrive before half-time. Another slick move allowed Cian Coleman this time to hit the back of the net, finishing powerfully.

HALF TIME: Leeds United 4-1 MK Dons

The second half continued in the same way as the first had finished. The recently introduced William Fewster set up Snowdon, who made no mistake getting his second of the game and Leeds’ fifth.

The sixth would follow shortly after, with McMillan the next to get his second of the game with another excellent finish inside the area.

MK Dons were still working hard and looking to register themselves on the scoresheet in the second half, but it was to be Leeds who extended their lead. Provider turned score, as Fewster found the back of the net to make it seven.

Another second half substitute, Jimiel Chikukwa, then showed he had an eye for goal by making it eight for his side, going on a mazy run into the box and curling beyond the ‘keeper.

MK’s perseverance and determination to go forward was rewarded in injury time when they got their second, as Tali Jallow produced a nice finish of his own.

That was the final goal of the game and with the full-time whistle, Leeds were safely in round four where they will face Newcastle United away from home.
