Dominic Calvert-Lewin: We can be proud of how we performed in the second half

Goalscorer speaks after spirited performance.

Calvert-Lewin vs Manchester City

Leeds United fell to a cruel 3-2 loss away at the Etihad Stadium this afternoon at the hands of Manchester City, despite coming back from 2-0 down at half time thanks to goals from Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Lukas Nmecha.

Pep Guardiola's side went two up before the break, but after some tweaks at half time, substitute Calvert-Lewin and Nmecha levelled the tie, but it was Phil Foden who secured a brace to win the game for the hosts in added time.

Speaking after the game, Calvert-Lewin said: "I think we can be proud of how we performed in the second half, but then frustrated at the same time to work so hard to get ourselves in such a good position. 2-0 down at the Etihad, it's a long way back, but we did it. It was just a finishing touch today. They've got good players that ultimately punish us in one single moment."

On the tactical tweaks at the break: "I think we just went a little bit more direct and were a little bit braver in possession. I think with me and Lucas up front, it provided a different outlet and a different physical outlet for the team. So I think that was probably the biggest change.

"We played forward and just played with confidence - threatened their back line, don't give them too much respect, respect them but not too much respect and look what happened. So from a more positive aspect we can take confidence from that.

"Everyone was aligned, particularly in that second half. The Etihad's a difficult place to go for anybody. So the first half was tough, but to come out the second half, we responded in the right way and we followed the manager's instruction and we all worked together to get ourselves back in the game.

"We're all fully committed to a difficult week ahead. They're home games which we truly believe we can win and we believe that we've got the quality. I think we're close, we've been close in many games but ultimately you have to turn those nearly moments into our favour and that's what you have to do to stay in this division."
