Daniel Farke: The performance should give us lots of belief

Boss speaks after fiery performance.

Daniel Farke vs Manchester City

Leeds United were narrowly defeated by Manchester City in the Premier League this afternoon, despite a spirited second half display bringing the tie back level from 2-0 down in the second half.

Second half goals from Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Lukas Nmecha brought the clash back to all square before the 70th minute, but it was Pep Guardiola's side who took the three points as Phil Foden swept home in added time.

Speaking after the game, Leeds boss Daniel Farke said: "There were so many setbacks in the first half, we changed that at half time. We had the same principles in our pressing against the ball, but I was not really happy with our execution - this was way better in the second half.

"The game was open in the last minutes, I think both teams could have won it. Of course, Manchester City are a side full of superstars and full of class, and one moment of magic from Phil Foden with a great finish is the decisive moment for them. Real heartbreak and unlucky for my players, but they should take lots of lots of pride and lots of confidence out of it, especially the second half performance.

"We are disappointed because we didn't come here for warm words or compliments, we came here wanting to win some points. So the overriding feeling is right now disappointment, but after so many sucker punches and you're against such a good side, then to show such a performance should give us lots of belief.

"If you have such a start that you can see exactly about what you have prepared the whole the whole week. Then after 40 seconds, you're asking yourself, what? What are we doing anymore?" the German added on the start to the game. "You think, okay, right now you have to find the solution. You do it in the proper way.

"If there's another sucker punch, if you then dwell on that, you have no chance. It's more like, Come on, keep going. Show resilience, show reaction, show great heart, show show passion and confidence."

On the tactical tweaks that led to equalising: "We are always prepared to play in the 3-5-2, but I think it would be too easy to just decide it on this. So, it's more or less, if the answer is how to win at the Etihad and how to dominate the game against such a top, top side, we just play through two up front and in 3-5-2, many teams would win here. So it's not that easy.

"It's about the principles. It's about the way you want to play in possession against the ball. Today, to change against the ball, we have played more or less a similar setup, or wanted to play a similar setup, but the execution was not like we we planned during during the whole week. That's why I reacted at halftime."
