Leeds United celebrated Level Playing Field’s annual Unite for Access campaign recently with the help of our very own Disabled Advisory Group.
The club’s Disabled Advisory Group was created towards the end of the 2022/23 season, following the success of our Supporters Advisory Board that has now been running for a number of years.
The group currently meets every quarter, with hopes of increasing the frequency of meetings to every two months, to ensure the club is being as proactive as possible in terms of listening to our disabled fans, improving accessibility and ensuring Elland Road is an inclusive space for all supporters.
An agenda is created ahead of every meeting, with all members able to include any items for discussion along with present staff members relaying any updates or current issues.
There has been some incredibly positive progress made through the formation of the group, including the pathway that has been implemented through the North Car Park and the changes that have been made to the PA expectations. Other areas of discussion during meetings have included car parking, new facilities/developments and the disability access statement.
To help build the group, all disabled ticket holders were emailed and asked to apply if they were interested in becoming a member, with the Head of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion alongside the Disability Liaison Officer choosing from over 100 applications, making sure that members chosen had varying disabilities and also covered a number of other demographics such as age and gender.
All of our Disabled Advisory Group members were invited to attend the recent Sky Bet Championship fixture against Millwall, which was dedicated to Level Playing Field, with the members on hand to meet with Leeds United captain Ethan Ampadu pitchside for photos with branded Unite for Access materials.
