Daniel Farke’s Schalke 04 friendly verdict

Daniel Farke Schalke 04

Leeds United manager Daniel Farke spoke to LUTV following Saturday’s two-nil victory over Schalke 04.

Goals from Mateo Joseph and Joel Piroe ensured the Whites were victorious for the second game in a row during the Germany pre-season camp.

Farke was pleased his side were able to get another win as preparations continue for Portsmouth arriving at Elland Road on the first day of the league season.

“I’m happy with the game overall, if I’m honest, even more happy than our easy win over Hannover 96 just a few days ago because his was a challenge like on Championship level.

“We had the game with lots of praise we were there with a top performance and it was an easy win from the start.

“Three days later you play a game on a difficult pitch against a really physical opponent and the lads were tired, having not had a day off for two weeks and also, the last few days have been focused on team building in addition to our training sessions, with go-karting and a barbeque.

“I think it was a bit of a poorer start in the first 20-25 minutes, but then how we fought our way into this game, in the last 20 minutes of the first half we had good chances and should have scored and in the second half it was fantastic with two great goals.

“Overall I’m pretty happy with the game and another clean sheet, there is no replacement for wins and clean sheets, it is good to have this feeling.

“Everything has been nearly perfect on the trip, we had perfect conditions for training and mostly really good weather, not today, but overall and it’s been great to have the lads together for 24 hours a day to work on team spirit and integrate the lads who arrived a bit later and new signings.

“We have two weeks to go to prepare for our first match that really counts and we still have work to do, but this trip has been pretty successful.”
