Daniel Farke: We deserved to win

Manager shares his thoughts after victory over Everton.

Leeds United marked their return to the Premier League with a memorable victory over Everton at Elland Road.

With the game still goalless, a late Lukas Nmecha penalty on debut won the encounter for Daniel Farke’s side.

Speaking to the press after the full-time whistle, the manager was delighted with the Whites’ performance.

“I think overall in a tight game, a hard-fought win but also a well-deserved win from my side,” Farke told the media.

“Outstanding performance. I think we were very dominant in the first half and had nearly 70 per cent possession, 12 shots already in the first half.

“I was a bit worried because especially as a newly promoted side, once you have such a dominant period, and it was more or less the whole first half that we dominated, normally you have to reward yourself also with the goal because at Premier League level one little moment can change your whole momentum.

“An experienced side like Everton can come into the game and take advantage, score a goal, and then the whole story is more like you get praise for the performance, but no points on the board.

“So I am pretty pleased that we were able in the second half to reward ourselves with this goal and also to protect this clean sheet.

“We didn’t allow really many chances during the whole game. I think we deserved to win this game but you always have to be switched on.

“I think all in all, we have won against a really good and very experienced Premier League side.”
