Leeds United winger Dan James was on hand to sweep home a long-distance third goal deep into stoppage time as the Whites beat Yorkshire rivals Hull City in dramatic fashion at Elland Road.

Sam Byram had put Daniel Farke’s side a goal to the good inside the opening ten minutes, as he rose highest to bundle home Crysencio Summerville’s rebounded shot.

The Tigers would equalise before the break through Liverpool loanee Fabio Carvalho, but an 88th minute penalty from Summerville restored the lead late on before Wales international James sealed the three points in added time.

After the match, the 26-year-old spoke with LUTV.

“I’ve definitely not scored from as far out! The keeper has come up and it is the second phase from the corner and Joel has played it to me.

“I’ve had a few this season where I have tried to lob the keeper and it hasn’t come off, but this one wasn’t a lob. I think from my angle, I always knew it was going in. I spoke to the lads on the bench and from their angle they obviously couldn’t see it. It was a nice feeling when it went in!

“It was a really tough game. I thought that Hull were really good tonight. First half I think they were a lot more on top and in the second half we started to find more pockets and had a few chances, we hit the post and you start to think that it isn’t your night.

“But especially at home, even the away game they other day, we always dig in to the very end. I thought Crysencio was unbelievable the other night, he dragged us through it and he has done it again to get the penalty, but also to step up and send the keeper and put it down the middle, so credit to him. The game then opened a bit.

“They are trying to get into the playoffs and they are pushing for a win, so after a tough game and getting quite a few knocks, it was nice to get on the scoresheet tonight because it has been a tough few games.

“We have got a little rest before Coventry but it will be another really tough game away from home. We had a tough game here against them and they are in form at the minute. They have got the semi-finals of the FA Cup and they are playing with freedom. I think they have been great and it will be a really good game and another tough test.”
