Dan James was pleased to progress into the next round of the Carabao Cup with victory over Fulham, giving special praise for the young players in the squad.
The Whites won a dramatic penalty shoot-out at Craven Cottage, with James netting his spot-kick on a night that saw him celebrate for two reasons.
“I think maybe we were disappointed because we created a lot of chances to go and win the game in normal time,” James explained to LUTV.
“Thankfully the boys stepped up and put the penalties in the back of the net. Credit to the young boys who came on, they did so well and stuck their penalties away.
“We created a lot in the first half, just like the game other day. It’s something we have got to work on, we have to score when we are on top.
“Second half it was little bit tougher, I think there was quite a lot of counter attacks.
“We saw the game out towards the end, they had a couple of headers that nearly went in but except for that, I don’t think they threatened too much.
“We just need to keep making those chances, but putting them way.”
The winger wasn’t with the squad earlier in the day, as he celebrated the birth of a baby boy! After being able to see his new arrival, James then travelled down to London to join the squad.
He said: “My little boy got delivered this afternoon.
“I want to thank the manager for letting me stay up in Manchester to see my babies birth, it was absolutely amazing.
“Thankfully the baby was born just in time for me to get down for the game. It’s double happiness today!”
