Coventry City: Missile throwing at Elland Road

Supporter behaviour and disciplinary policies.

Throwing missiles

Leeds United would like to remind all supporters who attend games at Elland Road to be respectful of our own fans, opposition supporters, all players, officials and members of staff.

All supporters are reminded to not throw missiles/objects of any kind towards the pitch or towards any persons in and around the stadium.

It is a condition of entry to comply with the Elland Road Ground Regulations and the terms and conditions of the ticketing policy, and if you require further information around any of these regulations or policies they can be find online here.

The Football Offences Act (1991) clearly states that it is an offence for a person at a designated football match to throw anything at or towards:

(a) the playing area, or any area adjacent to the playing area to which spectators are not generally admitted, or

(b) any area in which spectators or other persons are or may be present,

without lawful authority or lawful excuse (which shall be for him to prove).

Any supporters that are found to be throwing a missile during their visit to Elland Road is therefore guilty of an offence and once identified they will be ejected and arrested by the authorities. They will then be subject to at least a one-year club ban or longer depending on the outcome of any police action and the decisions of the court process, such as a Football Banning Order which can result in being banned from attendance from any football stadium in the UK for up to eight years.

Throwing missiles is just one of many behaviours that will not be accepted at Elland Road, and there is a zero-tolerance policy towards ANY dangerous or abusive and discriminatory behaviour. The club will continue to do everything it can to make the ground a safe place for ALL spectators.

The Leeds United Fan Disciplinary Policy can also be found here for your information.
