Leeds United are supporting the Level Playing Field’s Weeks of Action at the Sky Bet Championship fixture against Huddersfield Town on Saturday afternoon.

The club along with other EFL clubs, Disabled Supporters Associations (DSAs) and fans are coming together to show their commitment to access and inclusion to help improve the experience for disabled supporters attending any EFL fixture.

Disabled people are the largest minority group in any population and with sport having such a unique capacity to bring people together and the positive impact that watching live sport has, being accessible and inclusive is essential for disabled people to participate fully.

Leeds United continue to work closely with the Leeds United Disabled Organisation (LUDO) to try and make Elland Road more accessible and disabled friendly to ensure anyone who wants to attend a match is able to do so.

LUDO began during the 1991/92 season and was headed up by Stuart Ramm who approached the club to ask if they would work with a group of fans and see them as the voice of disabled supporters. Since its inception, Leeds United have worked with LUDO to improve disabled areas in the ground with more wheelchair spaces now available on all sides of the ground and a specific area for ambulant disabled fans. Other achievements include the provision of more disabled toilets, lower level counters for wheelchair users and an exclusive lounge to be used on matchdays, before and after games.

If you would like to know more about LUDO please contact the club’s Disabled Liaison Officer via email at [email protected].

The Leeds United Foundation also work everyday with hundreds of disabled people across Leeds to help create more opportunities for disabled people to take part in and play sport. Coaches from the club’s official charity deliver a number of different initiatives under the Every Player Counts programme, which is an EFL Trust project funded by Wembley National Stadium Trust that has attracted over 11,000 new participants into disability football.

In December, the project received a further £0.5m donation to support the programme delivery in its fourth successive year. For more information on the programmes being delivered for people with disabilities, please contact [email protected].

If you’d like to get involved in the Weeks of Action campaign please post your messages of support on Twitter (@lpftweets) and Facebook (/lpftweets) using the hashtag #WeeksOfAction.
