Leeds United’s Sky Bet Championship fixture against Swansea City will be dedicated to Stonewall’s annual Rainbow Laces campaign, as we continue to show our commitment to supporting all LGBTQ+ people in football and beyond.
This year Rainbow Laces celebrates its 10th anniversary, and the main message in their tenth year will be to keep it up: keep raising awareness, keep supporting each other, and keep pushing to make sure sport and fitness is for everyone.
Large parts of the LGBTQ+ community still struggle to be their true selves whilst attending or participating in various sporting events, and in 2023 that should not be the case.
To help show our ongoing support for Stonewall and the Rainbow Laces campaign, there will be branding visible around Elland Road, which will include specially designed t-shirts for our first-team players to wear during their warm-up. The first-team squad will also be debuting the new adidas Love Unites range for the following match against Middlesbrough on Saturday afternoon, pieces from this range will be made available to purchase online and in store.
We are delighted that so many of our friends at Marching Out Together will also be in attendance for the dedicated match, with a special part to play as the teams walk out of the tunnel.
So much has been achieved in the last 10 years, with over a million people lacing up in support of LGBTQ+ inclusion in sport and physical activity, but discrimination and abusive chanting has not yet disappeared. We must work together to end the abuse people suffer and encourage everyone to play their part in ensuring everyone feels welcome. Real fans do not discriminate.
