Cath Hamill gave her thoughts to LUTV following Thursday night’s 13-0 victory over local side, Farsley Celtic Women.
The Whites have one more friendly before the season opener, as they take on Doncaster Belles on Sunday in the Julie Chipchase memorial match.
The season will then get underway on the 15th August against Stockport County Women, away from home.
“I don’t think we were expecting to score 13 at the start of the match,” Hamill explained.
“But, we can’t ask for much more and a clean sheet as well. It was a really good game, we’ve now scored over 20 odd goals in four games over pre-season, so it’s looking good.
“We’re quite confident with the games we’ve played so far, it gives us a lift and everything has been really positive.
“It’s getting close now - the first game against Stockport - we have one more friendly left so we keep going.”
Hamill was asked about the aims for the club this season and the optimism around the squad.
She said: “I’ve been here a good few years now and I’m very excited about the new season. We are feeling quite positive but we don’t want to get ahead of ourselves.
“We want to take each game as it comes and take it from there.
“Of course we are aiming for promotion, but like I said we’re just going to do the best we can and just keep going.
“It would obviously be very nice to finish the season with promotion, especially following such a long break due to covid.
The defender then looked ahead to next Sunday’s season opener against Stockport County.
“I think it will be a difficult game to be honest, but sometimes you want to play those games at the start.
“They’re physical, strong and quick but we will be up for it and we’re keeping focused.”
