Leeds United Women return to Adobe Women’s FA Cup action on Sunday, welcoming FC St Helens Women to Garforth in the first round proper.
Following last week’s victory away at tier-above Hull City Ladies in the FA Women’s National League Cup First Round, the Whites will be looking to extend their winning streak to five games in all competitions.
Last time out in the FA Cup, Simon Wood’s side were victorious over Norton & Stockton Ancients on penalties, after a deadlocked 90 minutes was decided by Carrie Simpson’s save and Ellie White’s winning spot-kick.
Ahead of the fixture, and following her shootout heroics, Whites ‘keeper Simpson said: “We’re feeling really good about Sunday’s clash against St Helens. I think it’s a good opportunity to play a different team that we haven’t played before and it's a different challenge.
“It’s always good to play in the FA Cup. We’ve had some really good runs over the last few years, so it’s always good to play against different teams and it’s an exciting occasion.
“I think it’s important to have a good cup run with the squad,” the stopper added. “We’ve got a fairly good-sized squad and I think it’s a good opportunity for everyone to get minutes and challenge ourselves in a different way with a bit of a different pressure to the league."
On personal ambitions following the penalty shootout win: “I think I’m quite an experienced player now – I’ve played for a long time and it’s always good (to save a penalty).
“It helps build confidence into each game, and also into the cup runs where it’s a possibility that we could go to penalties.
“It was a great feeling for me to save the penalty and go through to the next round. Overall, everyone’s pretty excited.
“We’ve had a good session this week building into the cup, and I’m looking forward to seeing what we can do and seeing how far we can go in the FA Cup this season.”
