Dominic Calvert-Lewin has etched his name into Leeds United history after becoming the first Whites player in more than 20 years to score in five successive Premier League appearances.
The 28-year-old striker’s remarkable run was capped in style on Saturday, as he struck twice in our 4-1 victory over Crystal Palace at Elland Road, continuing a purple patch that began at the end of November.
Calvert-Lewin’s streak started on Saturday 29 November at the Etihad Stadium, where he found the net against Manchester City. Goals against Chelsea, Liverpool and Brentford followed, before his brace against Palace sealed a place alongside some of the most prolific forwards in the club’s modern history.
In doing so, Calvert-Lewin has become just the fourth different Leeds United player to score in five consecutive Premier League appearances, joining Mark Viduka, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink and Rod Wallace.
Viduka was the last to achieve the feat, back in August 2003. The Australian forward netted a brace against Fulham at Elland Road on 22 April 2003, before scoring in successive matches against Blackburn Rovers, Arsenal, Aston Villa and Newcastle United – a run that has stood untouched until now.
Hasselbaink completed the sequence during the 1998/99 campaign, while Wallace was the first Leeds player to do so in the Premier League era in 1993.
With confidence flowing and history already made, Leeds United’s number nine is showing no signs of slowing down and will be keen to maintain his form as he looks to catch the eye of England head coach Thomas Tuchel ahead of next summer’s World Cup in North America.
