Jaka Bijol was at the heart of Slovenia’s defence as they opened their UEFA Nations League campaign with a goalless draw against Scotland in Ljubljana.

The Leeds United defender started at centre-back for the hosts at Stadion Stožice, helping his side keep the Tartan Army at bay throughout the contest.

Bijol was particularly busy, making 53 touches and completing 29 passes, while recording a match-high 14 defensive contributions.

The 27-year-old made one tackle, three blocks, eight clearances and two interceptions, while also winning four duels during an assured display.

Scotland enjoyed plenty of possession and created a number of opportunities after the interval, but Slovenia stood firm to claim a point from their opening Group B1 fixture.

Bijol's next opportunity to represent his country comes on Tuesday 29 September, when Slovenia face North Macedonia.

The match in Ljubljana is scheduled to kick off at 7:45pm BST.
