Bijol earns Slovenia call-up for June friendlies

Jaka Bijol Slovenia Montenego Mar 26 Captain

Jaka Bijol has received another call-up to the Slovenia national team ahead of their upcoming international fixtures in June.

The Leeds United defender has been selected by head coach Boštjan Cesar for two friendly matches, as preparations continue for the next round of competitive internationals.

Slovenia will first take on Cyprus on June 4 at the Stožice Stadium in Ljubljana, with kick-off scheduled for 5pm BST. They will then travel to Varaždin to face Croatia on June 7, with kick-off at 7:45pm BST.

Bijol, 27, was born in Vuzenica and remains a key figure for his country on the international stage. The centre-back has now earned 71 caps for Slovenia and has captained the side in each of their last three fixtures against Sweden, Hungary and Montenegro.

The summer signing from Udinese has enjoyed an impressive first campaign at Elland Road, featuring 31 times across all competitions during Leeds United’s return to the Premier League.

Bijol also opened his account for the Whites earlier this season, scoring in the victory over Chelsea at Elland Road, and has quickly become an important figure in Daniel Farke’s defence.
