Anton Stach has been called up to Julian Nagelsmann’s German national side for the first time in four years prior to their friendly matches against Switzerland and Ghana, ahead of this summer’s FIFA World Cup.
The midfielder has been instrumental for Leeds so far this season, featuring 29 times and scoring four goals – three of which were free kicks!
The German international spoke with the media following his call up and shared how he found out he was selected for the squad.
“He [Julian Nagelsmann] caught me completely off guard because I was eating breakfast and I saw a German number, and then I called the number back, and he was not picking up.
“Then he called me back and we talked for a few minutes. I have since smiled the whole day!”
Speaking on his boss Daniel Farke’s impact this season on his form: “A big, big help so I have to thank him a lot because he trusts me. He put me on the pitch so I can show what my ability is.”
Reflecting on the improvements made since he joined Leeds United, the midfielder said: “I have gained more experience on a different level, because in the Premier League are the best players from the world so it is good to compete with them.
“It is different to Germany of course, and I try to develop everything - my ability in driving the ball, my passing, my strength in the duels. I think there is still space to improve, but I think I'm on a good path.”
